Our board of directors consists of unpaid volunteers elected by members of Granite Credit Union. Each member of the board has a working familiarity with finance and accounting practices. They are responsible for the general direction and control of the credit union, working with the Executive Team in strategic planning and policy making. The board provides oversight to ensure compliance with legal and financial requirements to ensure sound business practices.

These volunteers safeguard members’ assets by ensuring the credit union is operating according to sound business, ethical, and regulatory standards. They hold the board of directors and executive team accountable for fulfilling their responsibilities in the interests of the credit union’s members. At Granite Credit Union, we’re committed to being a trusted financial partner and making it easy for our members to make life happen.
Credit unions were established with the philosophy of people helping people, to serve the financially underserved. On May 15, 1935, at 4:15 in the afternoon, a group of seven educators met at the Central Office of Granite School District for the purpose of organizing a credit union for the teachers within the school district. These fellow educators pooled their money together to form a co-operative to provide solutions to help them achieve their financial dreams and goals.
At first, the credit union operated primarily out of the president’s home. As the credit union expanded to serve a larger field of membership, it changed its name three times and received a federal charter on July 26, 2004. Now, Granite Credit Union serves 10 counties in Utah: Salt Lake, Box Elder, Weber, Morgan, Davis, Summit, Tooele, Utah, Wasatch, and Juab counties.
Our vision is to be “Always there… so you can make life happen”. We understand each person has a unique set of circumstances and goals. We want to empower you to take charge of your life with the financial solutions that best meet your needs, whether that be loans or savings and investment options to help you reach your goals.
